SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo Police and Firefighters have surrounded the Cactus Hotel downtown and have blocked off streets.
Reporters on the scene say there is nothing official, but it may a bomb threat that was emailed in.
This is a developing story.
We will update it as new information becomes available.
UPDATE 4:30 p.m.
The San Angelo Police Department, in conjunction with the San Angelo Fire Marshal’s Office, are investigating an email message received by individuals at the Cactus Hotel.
The email message references the detonation of an explosive device(s) unless the email recipient(s) transfer a sum of money to the sender.
In an abundance of caution, Public Safety Officials are conducting security sweeps and evacuating the building.
Thus far, this message does not appear to be authentic or a legitimate threat and the email(s) resemble a robo-email message that has been circulating throughout the country in an attempt to scam businesses out of money. Even though this email threat appears to be a hoax, our agencies take every threat seriously and we will continue to investigate.
Agency Officials are asking members of the public to avoid the area surrounding the Cactus Hotel for the public’s safety as well as to ensure access to emergency vehicles and personnel.
As always, San Angelo Public Safety Officials want to remind our citizens to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety.
Comments
of these types of emails are the ones demanding I wire them money, in exchange for not posting embarrassing information or photos to my "contact lists".
In broken English, they'll request I send $400 or so, to some landfill of a country that hasn't yet mastered the art of functioning sewer systems.
