HAMLIN, TX -- Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating the rollover crash of an 18-wheeler that killed the driver.
According to DPS Trooper Sgt. Fred Biddle, the driver of a Mack Truck towing a trailer was traveling west on FM 2834 at 10:17 a.m. Thursday when it experienced an axle malfunction causing the driver to lose control.
The big rig rolled over several times and came to rest blocking both lanes of the roadway 6.7 miles north of Hamlin in Jones County.
The driver, 69-year-old Terry Joe Mathis of Rule, TX was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The DPS is still investigating the crash.
