SAN ANGELO, TX -- Dr. John E. Irish, ASU professor of music and principal trumpet of the San Angelo Symphony, alongside Imperial Brass’s five core members presented a master class to ASU students Friday.
In music master classes, a highly proficient artist/teacher works with a number of students in front of an audience. The intention is to provide a learning opportunity for performers as well as observers.
The first half Imperial Brass will play their repertoire. Then the students perform for the masters and get critiqued at the end.
Masterclasses are designed to accentuate the positive aspects of the musician while providing feedback and suggestions to achieve the best possible sound.
The Imperial Brass Band was formed in 1997 by Nathan and Susan Frazier who play the tuba and french horn.
They are accompanied by Tim Anderson who has performed with the Dallas Wind Symphony, Glen Hummel who has performed Broadway and another who has been a part of the President's Marine Corps Band.
The group mainly performs at churches and big performances but also travel the state educating students on brass instruments. The Imperial Brass Band will be performing Saturday night at 7 PM at Murphy Hall.
