SAN ANGELO, TX -- ASU Police Department's Title IX Team will be hosting a Dating Violence Awareness Program on Wednesday, October 31 from 2-4 p.m. at the University Center Lobby to help educate on the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship. Snacks will be provided.
Dating violence is most times difficult to detect and affects more than 12 million men and women over the course of a year. It goes beyond physical abuse. It is easy to make excuses for your partner's behavior when it might actually be out of hand. There are warning signs of dating abuse. If your partner is extremely jealous, has an explosive temper or is constantly belittling you or putting you down, these are only some of the signs that you might be in an abusive relationship. If your partner is using behaviors to manipulate, gain control, gain power, make you afraid of them or try to isolate you from your friends and family, these are also some of the ways that your partner is being abusive in your relationship.
Using manipulation and forceful mannerisms, the abuser can make the victim perform or partake in acts that they themselves wouldn't normally partake in. If your partner is upset or angry and tells you the only way for them to be is happy is for you to do something that you don't want to do, this is another sign of abuse.
ASU's Police Department is hosting this program to help men and women educate themselves on the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship and ways to get help. If you think you know someone in a situation like this or if you are in a situation that sounds like this, try and get to this program to get some help on how to help yourself or someone else that might need it.
