SAN ANGELO, TX – October 29 is National Cat Day. Studies are showing that owning a pet can improve your overall health.
“Pet owners have lower levels of cholesterol, lower blood pressure and are less likely to suffer from stress, depression and anxiety,” stated a study found at www.purina.co.uk.
According to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association, 68 percent or 85 million families own a pet in the United States.
47.1 million U.S. households own a cat compared to 60.2 million households owning a dog, however cats hold the number one spot in the total number of pets owned in the U.S. The United States collectively owns 94.2 million cats and 89.7 million dogs.
One out of every three cats are acquired as strays, and an interesting fact from www.psychologytoday.com says that “61 percent of the cats or kittens adopted from shelters are black or mostly black.”
According to a chart on the Insurance Information Institute webpage, cats have lower expenses than dogs in all eight listed categories. That could be one reason why people like having cats better.
Are you wondering if having cat is right for you and your family? There are several factors to consider before buying or adopting a furry friend.
It is advised to consider your lifestyle before getting a cat. Is anyone allergic? What is your activity level? How much space do you have in your home? Do you have children? How much time can you give to your pet?
Cats are more independent animals and are relatively quiet and happy to be left alone. They don’t need to go for a walk, although they do enjoy social interaction and being played with.
Let’s celebrate your cat today or visit one at a shelter.
