Accomplice in Double Homicide Gets a Court Date for Jury Trial

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Justin Gamez is awaiting trial for his role in the 2016 murders of Jimmy Andrew Gonzales and Anthony Michael Martinez on Rio Grande St. in San Angelo.

Gamez told authorities he drove co-defendants Ray Alvarado and Ricky Zuniga to the residence where the murders took place.

As we reported earlier, Zuniga, 27, was charged with capital murder along with co-defendants Raymond Alvarado, Krystal Lerma and Justin Gamez.

Lerma was charged with burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit robbery. They are accused of robbing the two men at a residence on Rio Grande St. in San Angelo on Sept. 12, 2016.

Alvarado was accused of shooting Gonzales and Martinez to death during the robbery.

Alvarado took a plea deal in June that sent him to prison without the possibility of parole.

A Tom Green County jury found Lerma guilty in June as well and District Judge Ben Woodward sentenced her to 27 years in prison for her role in the murders.

Gamez is charged with one count of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

The burglary charge is a first degree felony punishable by five to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.  The tampering charge is a third degree felony punishable by two to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Gamez’s defense attorney Stephanie Goodman asked visiting District Judge Brock Jones to approve a motion ordering a copy of trial transcripts be provided to her.  Judge Jones signed the order and set Gamez’s jury trial for January 22, 2019.
