River Flood Warnings Issued for the Middle Concho and South Concho Rivers

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a River Flood Warning for the Middle Concho River above Tankersley and the South Concho River at Christoval.  

According to the NWS, the warnings are from late tonight to Thursday afternoon. 

At 2:15 p.m. the Middle Concho River was at 11.2 feet and flood stage is 18 feet.  

Minor flooding is forecast.  The river is expected to rise above flood stage after midnight and continue to rise to 18.2 feet overnight.  

The river will fall below flood stage Thursday morning.  

Minor flooding will occur with water approaching FM 853 .

This flood event compares to a rise of 18.9 feet in 1980.  

The South Concho River at 1:45 p.m. was at 4.9 feet with flood stage at 10 feet.  

The river is expected to rise quickly to above flood stage this afternoon and go back down below flood stage overnight. 

Do not drive into flood water. Turn around don't drown.
