FORT STOCKTON, TX-- The Fort Stockton Police Department is ready to lend a hand to the victims of the flooding in Sonora over the weekend, according to a report by NewsWest 9.
They will be collecting items to donate to help with the relief effort and plan to send an officer to assist with the clean up and give the items to the city in need.
On Friday, the Dry Devil's River played the role of the devil by surging over its banks and flooding the town. Roughly 150 homes and businesses were affected by the flooding.
Here is what Fort Stockton PD is collecting:
- Totes/tubs
- Towels
- Can openers
- Fans
- Box cutters
- Saws, skill saws things to cut drywall
- Neosporin
- Work gloves (not plastic)
- Masks
- Formula
- New comforter sets
- Mops
- Shockwave cleaner to treat mold
- Pry bars
- Dog food/cat food
- Hammers
- Hairbrushes
- Shampoo/conditioner
On Saturday, the Sonora Lady Broncos and Wall Lady Hawks teamed up to aid the community by setting up donation bins at their volleyball game in Sonora.
A disaster relief fund has been set up through the San Angelo Area Foundation for those affected by the flooding. You can donate to that cause here.
