Midland Basketball Player Dies After Collapsing at Practice

MIDLAND, TX -- A senior at Midland Lee High School collapsed and later died after girls high school basketball practice Wednesday.

According to the Midland ISD, emergency medical personnel were called to the school around 4 p.m. Wednesday after the player apparently fainted during practice. 

The player was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital and numerous attempts were made to revive her.  She was pronounced dead at 7 p.m.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the family, our staff, and students as we work through this tragedy,” MIdland ISD spokeperson Lacy Sperry wrote in a statement.

The player hasn't been identified yet.  Midland ISD is expected to release more information today.
