Flood Advisory Issued for San Angelo as Rescuers Stay Busy

Updated 10:35 a.m.  The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for San Angelo until the noon hour.  

According to the NWS, at 10:17 a.m. local law enforcement reported in San Angelo in the street flooding in the College Hills and Cornell Ave.

Quick heavy rainfall amounts between 1/4 and 3/4 inch can be expected over San Angelo as storms moves north at 5 mph.

Some locations that will experience flooding include... San Angelo, San Angelo State Park, O.c. Fisher Reservoir, Twin Buttes Reservoir, Lake Nasworthy, Goodfellow Air Force Base and Grape Creek.

This includes the following low water crossings; Howard and Webster, Jackson From Knickerbocker to South Bryant, Southwest Blvd and Loop 306, College Hills and Millbrook, 1500 Block of Spaulding, 300 block of North Archer, Parkwood and Lindenwood, Sul Ross At Red Arroyo Crossing,  Huntington and Sunset and Paseo De Vaca and Washington.

Do not drive through these low water crossings or any other low water crossing with water flowing across the roadway.

Updated 10:12 a.m.  San Angelo Police and Firefighters are busy with water rescues in southwest San Angelo.  

The were called to at least three locations.  Scanner reports indicate parts of Jackson St. is blocked off near Angelo State University because of high water. 

Motorists are urged to avoid driving in southwest San Angelo at this time.

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a flood advisory for parts of the Concho Valley for Wednesday morning. 

According to the NWS, at 8:40 a.m., doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms from Ft McKavett to Eldorado to Christoval to 10 miles northwest of Eldorado.

The storms were moving north at 10 mph. Localized rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches have already occurred, and 1 to 2 additional rainfall amounts are expected.

This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area which includes Schleicher County in west central Texas, southeastern Tom Green County, and Southeastern Irion County.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Eldorado, Mertzon, Christoval, Knickerbocker, Sherwood, the Intersection of Ranch Road 1828 and Ranch Road 915, the Intersection Of US 190 And Ranch Road 1828, Adams and the Intersection Of US 190 And Ranch Road 2084.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots.
