SAN ANGELO, TX — A Chevy Equinox with a driver and four passengers clobbered a Ford pickup late Sunday night, caused by what police said was the pickup truck driver’s failure to yield the right-of-way.
The crash happened right in front of the Chick-Fil-A at the intersection of S. Jackson St. and Knickerbocker Rd. It was Sunday, so Chick Fil A was not open. That was a good thing because local Chick Fil A officials claim the Knickerbocker Rd. location has the busiest Chick Fil A drive-thru in the nation.
Each of the four corners of that intersection has a fast food enterprise that sells chicken. Hence, it is known as the “Chicken District.” Cleanup of the District took about an hour.
Police said the Chevy Equinox was northeast-bound on Knickerbocker and witnesses informed police that the light at the Jackson intersection was green. Meanwhile, a southwest-bound pickup truck driver on Knickerbocker attempted to turn south, or left, and drove in front of the Equinox, giving the Equinox driver no time to take evasive action.
The Equinox collided with the truck.
One passenger in the Equinox was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries, police said. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup was not injured.
Police said a citation was issued to the driver of the pickup for failure to yield the right-of-way.
