SAN ANGELO, TX — (Press Release) Just before 8:00 a.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of E. 20th Street for the report of an 18-year-old male shooting victim.
The victim was subsequently transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and later airlifted to Lubbock for specialized treatment.
While at the scene, Police received information about the suspect’s whereabouts. Officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of E. 20th Street and initiated contact with the suspect around 8:26 a.m. The suspect, identified as a 15-year-old male acquaintance of the victim, surrendered around 8:35 a.m. without incident and he was transported to Police Headquarters for interview.
The Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Crimes Scene Investigations Unit responded to both locations for follow up investigation.
Pursuant to the investigation, Detectives learned the suspect was recklessly handling a firearm in the carport at the residence when he caused the firearm to discharge in the direction of the victim.
The juvenile suspect was subsequently charged with Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and booked into the Tom Green County Juvenile Justice Center.
