Man Uses Handsaw to Cut Vehicle From Tow Truck

SAN ANGELO, TX — At 4:00 a.m. Monday morning a man was arrested by San Angelo Police at W. Beauregard and S. Taylor for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

William Earnest Neill, 38, was arrested for “intentionally and knowingly threatening (the victim), and place him in fear of imminent serious bodily injury and did then and there intentionally and knowingly use and exhibit a deadly weapon, handsaw,” according to court documents.

The victim advised investigating officers that, “he repossessed a gray 2013 Chrysler Town & Country, which was properly secured on his tow truck lift.”

The victim told the officer that he was notifying San Angelo Police Communications of the repossession when Neill approached him and began to confront him about repossessing his vehicle. Neill entered the victim’s vehicle and punched him twice on the head.

Neill then entered the Town & Country and produced a handsaw, which he used to cut both tow straps, according to the court documents.

The victim then said Neill began to swing the handsaw in his direction placing him in fear for his safety.

Neill then got into the Town & County and drive it off the tow truck lift and fled the scene.

The investigating officer found the handsaw and the cut tow straps at the scene by the victim’s vehicle.

Neill was stopped and taken into custody. He is now in Tom Green County jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
