Zephyr Fire 50% Contained and Evacuation Orders Have Been Lifted

 

ZEPHYR, TX -- UPDATE — The wildfire that threatened the explosive plant in Zephyr has been 50% contained. There were 1,200 acres burned in the fire as of 10:30 a.m., according to KTXS.

The Zephyr Volunteer Fire Department has lifted the remaining evacuation orders and people can now return to their homes.

ORIGINAL STORY — A wildfire on Monday is threatening an explosives plant in the central Texas town of Zephyr prompting officials to evacuate the entire small town.  

According to reports from KTXS, The Brownwood, TX fire chief has urges everyone within a mile of Zephyr to evacuate to Zephyr High School.

The Orcia USA plant makes commercial explosives and blasting systems according to the report. 

Multiple agencies including the Texas Forest Service are battling the blaze.  

Officials say the wildfire is burning on CR 259 southeast of Zephyr.

We have friends that live there. They are telling us that everyone within a six mile radius of the site is being evacuated. Early Baptist Church has opened to receive evacuees.
