13 People Survive Plane Crash of a WWII Era C-47 at Burnet Municipal Airport

BURNETT, TX -- A World War II era Boeing C-47 crashed Saturday morning at the Burnet Municipal Airport.  

According to the Burnett County Sheriff's office, At 9:18 a.m., BCSO Communications was notified of a plane crash on the runway at the Burnet Municipal Airport.

The aircraft was reportedly attempting to take off when the crash occurred. All 13 people onboard survived and were able to exit the aircraft.

One person was airlifted by helicopter to SAMMC with significant burn injuries. Seven persons were ground transported to Seton Highland Lakes with minor injuries.

The aircraft did catch fire as well as nearby grass. The fires were extinguished by responding fire departments.

The C-47 cargo airplane is the military version of the Douglas civilian DC-3.  the C-47 saw military service in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. 

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Aviation Administration are handling the investigation.
