Multiple Agencies Partner with SAISD for Active Shooter Drill

SAN ANGELO, TX-- In response to recent school shootings, San Angelo ISD is partnering with the Angelo State University and San Angelo Police Departments as well as the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an active shooter drill at one of their secondary campuses.

“Active shooter training is important given the rise of such incidents across the country,” SAISD said in a statement. “This exercise is unique as it is the first time we have had a joint endeavor involving multiple agencies in San Angelo. Should an active shooter event occur, multiple agencies would likely respond to the scene. It is critical that local agencies train together to be better prepared.”

On Friday, July 20, those agencies will conduct an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) exercise at Lee Middle School on Sherwood Way.

Helping direct the exercise will be ALERRT certified members of the Texas Tech Police Department.

Due to the exercise, SAISD says residents should expect to see “numerous emergency vehicles and personnel at the Lee Middle School campus.”
