SAN ANGELO, TX -- (Press Release) City management is considering how best to fill a vacancy in the airport director’s post following the resignation of Luis Elguezabal.
Elguezabal’s last day as airport director was Friday. He has served in the post 11 years. Deputy Director Mitch Sprunger will manage the airport in the interim until a new director is named.

San Angelo Regional Airport-Mathis Field serves more than 66,000 passengers annually via five American Eagle flights daily on regional jets to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. City leadership continues to pursue a second carrier offering service to another commercial hub.
At the same time, San Angelo’s economic development officials are working to position San Angelo Regional Airport as a place for industrial ventures to grow their businesses and create jobs. Among the operations currently at Mathis Field are the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FedEx, L-3 Communications Vertex Aerospace, Precision Aircraft, Ranger Aviation, Skyline Aviation and West Texas Weather Modification.
