Accused Gun-Wielding Man Arrested Near Angelo State University Identified

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The initial call to police was a man wearing a “UT shirt” was waving a gun. Police responded quickly to the witness report and found a man wearing a burnt orange Longhorn jersey. In all, seven police units from both the San Angelo police and Angelo State University police arrived at the scene. After identifying the subject in burnt orange, he was detained while police investigated. This happened just before 5 p.m. at Johnson and Princeton St., near Angelo State University.

San Angelo Police Department Sgt. Spencer said the man eventually admitted that he threw the gun to get rid of it. Police found the handgun on the grass on the side of the old Verizon building.

Police said their investigation revealed that the man in the Longhorn shirt was having an argument with another guy over a girl. The altercation started at the shopping center on Johnson St. near the former Verizon building.

The gun was a .22 automatic pistol and the Longhorn fan was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon. His name is being withheld until after he is booked into the Tom Green County Jail.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Update 7:55 p.m.

According to the Tom Green County Jail logs, James Clark, 31, whose photo closely resembles the photos we captured at the scene, was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon, and for disorderly conduct - display of a firearm. He is being held on $942 in bonds.

Walk around any college campus wearing a burnt orange UT jersey while waving a gun in the air. Easy peasy..... Really didn't even need the gun.

That's a sad way to live... You know your confidence is lacking when you have to pull a pistol out to keep a girlfriend. Whatever happened to the honorable sport of fisticuffs? You can legally fight in Texas if both parties agree... If you get charges for it, mutual combat is a defense to assault.
