SAN ANGELO, TX -- A former Lincoln Middle School teacher on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to three counts of child sex assault and his jury trial is set for later this month.
60-year-old Steven Skinner is charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child stemming from incidents that began in 2014 and ended in 2016.
According to court documents, Skinner is accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 from December 2014 to about April 2016. The indictment states Skinner engaged in fondling the victim, having oral sex and sexual intercourse with the victim. That felony charge is punishable by 25 years to 99 years in prison.
The second count is sexual assault of a child. Skinner is accused of having sexual intercourse with the victim who was 17 in December of 2016. The indictment also says Skinner used a black battery operated sexual pleasure vibrating device on the victim. That felony count is punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
The third count is indecency with a child by sexual contact in November of 2016. Court documents accuse Skinner of fondling the 17-year-old victim. That felony count is also punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
Skinner was arrested in December 2016 and subsequently released on $150,000 bond. The second count was added after he was release on bond.
Skinner spoke loud and clear when he pleaded not guilty to each of the three charges. His jury trial is set for Monday July 23 at 9 a.m. in the Tom Green County Courthouse.
