One Dead, Two Injured in Head On Crash That Shut Down U.S. 277 South of Abilene

 

Updated 6/4/2018 5:30 p.m.  The Texas Department of Public Safety is confirming to reporters that one person was killed and two injured in a head on crash on U.S. 277 south of Abilene at FM 1235 Monday afternoon.  KTXS says a black Nissan was southbound on U.S. 277 and a pickup belonging to Taylor County was northbound.  The Nissan swerved into the wrong lane and struck the pickup head on knocking the pickup on its side.  the Nissan burst into flames, but people who were first on the scene extingished the fire.  KTXS reports the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene by a Taylor County Justice of the Peace.  The two people in the Taylor County pickup were transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene with non-life threatening injuries.  Highway 277 remains closed while the DPS concludes its investigation of the crash.    

ABILENE, TX -- Reports out of Taylor County Monday afternoon say a multivehicle crash has shut down U.S. Highway 277 South of Abilene near FM 1235. 

KTXS is reporting a pickup belonging to Taylor County was involved in the crash.  

Several law enforcement agencies are on the scene.  

KTXS is reporting a Justice of the Peace is also on the scene.
