SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo City Council Members are expected to approved allocating $1,093,317 in Federal Community Development Block Grant funds and Home Investment Partnership (HOME) funds for FY 2018 during their regular Tuesday meeting.
According to information from the agenda packet for the regular meeting, the city is set to receive $699,822 in CDBG funds and an additional $338,495 in HOME Funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and has a list of priorities which the council may vote to approve Tuesday.
The projects include $146,364 for CDBG administration and planning which will cover staff and related costs required for overall program management.
The City’s Housing Program is set to receive $403,304 for Emergency Repairs, Neighborhood Paint Blitz, Homeless Prevention and Program Delivery.
Emergency repairs includes $100,304 for low/moderate income homeowners of up to $5,000 each for a total of 20 homes.
Housing Rehab and Neighborhood Blitz includes $148,000 for 20 eligible homeowners for siding replacement and painting.
There is $30,000 for Homeless prevention which is for those who can usually maintain their housing but are dealing with a sudden, short term financial crisis which has left them unable to meet their housing costs. The program is not for the chronically homeless.
And there is $125,000 for the housing program delivery which funds salaries and benefits for program staff.
The proposed CDBG/HOME funding also includes $38,000 for the salary and benefits of a Code Compliance Officer; $144,154 for debt service for the Rio Vista Park Renovation and the Producer’s Park Development; $171,495 for the City’s Affordable Housing Program targeting the Rio Vista, Blackshear, Reagan and Ft. Concho neighborhoods for approximately ten families for assistance with down payment and closing cost assistance to purchase a home; $80,000 for MHMR Tenant-based Rental Assistance; and $110,000 for the Galilee Community Development Corporation to assist in building three homes for low and moderate income residents.
In other business, the city council is set to apply for and accept a $5,000 grant for active shooter training from the Homeland Security Grants Division of the Governor’s office.
The city council also has a closed executive session scheduled on its regular Tuesday meeting agenda. The council meets in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in council chambers at the McNease Convention Center. The meeting is open to the public.
