Severe Thunderstorms Dump Much Needed Rain in San Angelo Area

SAN ANGELO, TX -- A severe thunderstorm blew through the San Angelo area early Monday morning bringing much needed rain along with high winds and some small hail.  

According to the National Weather Service Office at Mathis Field, at 2:47 a.m. a severe thunderstorm near Arden or 17 miles west of San Angelo had wind gusts of 60 mph, dangerous lightning and heavy rain along with some small hail.  

The line of storms was moving from the west to the east and impacted Carlsbad around 2:55 a.m. and Grape Creek and San Angelo at about 3 a.m.  

The NWS at Mathis Field recorded .50 inches of rain between 3 and 5 a.m. Monday.  

The cool wet weather is ending Monday with temperatures returning to above average.  The weather service is forecasting temperatures to again rise above 100 degrees beginning Tuesday and continuing for the next seven days.  A heat advisory is expected to be issued early this week.
