Man Commited Suicide in Abilene Emergency Room

 

ABILENE, TX-- A 23-year-old man is dead after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene last night.

Abilene PD said the victim walked into the Emergency Room and up to the triage window at Hendrick’s 1900 Pine at 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday, told a nurse his blood type and that he was an organ donor before shooting himself.

The staff at Hendrick worked quickly to treat the victim, but the man was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m.

Police say no threats to any of the staff or anyone else at the hospital were made.

The name of the victim has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.

HMC was placed on diversion until 11:10 p.m., according to KTXS.

Hendrick and police are offering counseling to staff and witnesses on hand at the time of the shooting.

That's so terrible, I can't imagine how the hospital staff must be feeling after something like that. It's sad to see folks bring an end to their lives. Can't come back from that decision and it does nothing but create "problems" for others to deal with, a selfish way out if you ask me.
