Fort Concho Will Celebrate Armed Forces Day Saturday

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- (Press Release) Fort Concho celebrates Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 19, with a display and demonstrations of its mountain howitzer on the Parade Ground near the Barracks 1 Visitor Center.

Members of the fort’s living history program will fire the gun on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fort Concho is located at 630 S. Oakes St.

At 7 p.m., the Ice House Brass Band will play a special concert of period songs and military music on the Post Bandstand at the west end of the Parade Ground near South Oakes. Bench seating will be available. Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs.

There is no charge for the concert or the howitzer demonstrations. Regular site admissions of $1.50-$3 will be in effect from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, but there will be no charge all day for active-duty military personnel and their families.
