Wear Blue on Wednesday for Flood Awareness Week May 21 - 25

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Governor Greg Abbott has proclaimed the week of May 21-25, 2018, as Flood Awareness Week in Texas.  The Texas Floodplain Management's Association (TFMA) is encouraging everyone to “Wear Blue” on Wednesday, May 23rd in support of Flood Awareness.  

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo is encouraging all families, schools and businesses to wear blue on Wednesday, May 23.   

According to Governor Abbott’s proclamation, flooding and flash flooding have threatened safety, property and occupations throughout the state’s history and can occur anytime of year.  

Abbott says flooding occurs at a higher frequency during spring and summer thunderstorms, tropical storms and hurricanes.  

The proclamation says it is crucial that all Texans understand and respect the power of flood water and be prepared for flooding including having a communication plan, supplies like food and water, and heeding watches and warnings.  

The NWS office in San Angelo reminds everyone to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” by not driving into water flooding roadways.  

The Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) is an organization of professionals involved in floodplain management, flood hazard mitigation, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), flood preparedness, warning and disaster recovery.
