San Angelo Health Foundation Announces New Chair and Board, Record $50 Million Lifetime Milestone in Grants Awarded

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Health Foundation’s new Board Chair announces the Foundation has reached a significant milestone - $50 million in grants! The Foundation’s commitments have funded 204 organizations and 684 projects since inception. The mission of the Foundation is “to enhance the quality of life of the people of the San Angelo area.”

At a recent meeting, San Angelo Health Foundation elected new Officers and an additional trustee.

The Honorable Marilyn Aboussie was elected as Chair of the Board. Judge Aboussie is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and was Chair of the Alumni Association. She retired as Chief Justice of the Texas Court of Appeals in 2003. Judge Aboussie continues to serve as a Senior Judge for the State of Texas and a Mediator and as an arbitrator. Among her activities, Judge Aboussie served as Chair of the Texas Judiciary, former trustee of Angelo Community Hospital and serves on the board of First Financial Bank – San Angelo. She serves on a board with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She and her husband, attorney John A. Hay, have one son who is an attorney in Austin. Other officers elected were:

  • David Lupton as Vice Chair,
  • Steve Cecil as Treasurer and
  • Mary Jane Steadman as Secretary.

Judge Aboussie announced the addition of a new Trustee, Jeffrey McCormick, CPA to the Foundation board. Mr. McCormick graduated with honors from Angelo State University in 1986 with a BBA in Accounting. Mr. McCormick joined Oliver, Rainey and Wojtek, LLP in 1985 and in 1995, Mr. McCormick became a partner. In 2010 Oliver, Rainey and Wojtek LLP named Mr. McCormick as a managing partner. Mr. McCormick is a member of San Angelo Rotary, member and Current Chair of Southwest Practice Management Group and member and Past Chair of San Angelo Area Foundation. Mr. McCormick and his wife Amy have two children, Zach and Maury, and three grandchildren.

San Angelo Health Foundation’s Trustees are extremely proud to reach the $50 million grant making milestone.

The Foundation, created with $44 million in proceeds from the sale of the nonprofit Angelo Community Hospital in 1995, currently maintains a corpus of $55 million. The Foundation will continue to enhance the quality of life for those in the San Angelo area. Grant applications are accepted on a continuing basis at the Foundation office.
