SAN ANGELO, TX—The Central Bobcats took to the field for their second day of spring practice on Tuesday with more than curious fans and media in attendance.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers, of the Big 10 Conference, made the trek from Minneapolis to take in the Bobcat’s practice. More specifically, Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kirk Ciarrocca was on hand to recruit the Bobcats.
The 28-year veteran was especially pleased with Central’s soon-to-be senior gunslinger Maverick McIvor. So pleased that Ciarrocca and Minnesota extended a scholarship offer, according to McIvor’s Twitter page.
The offer is McIvor’s eighth from the Division I rank and his first from the Big 10. McIvor has picked up offers from Boise State, Ole Miss and Washington State to name a few.
Minnesota’s ship is captained by P.J. Fleck who coined the phrase “Row the Boat” while at Western Michigan, where he led the Broncos to the 2016 Cotton Bowl. Ciarrocca has been Fleck’s OC from day one at WMU.
Minnesota went 5-7 in Fleck's first season at the helm, the best mark for a first-year coach at the school.
While under their direction in Kalamazoo, the Broncos posted a school record in points (582), total yards (6,737) and touchdowns (75).
McIvor posted 3,415 yards passing and 870 yards rushing with 52 total touchdowns in 2017 where the Bobcats posted an 11-1 record and fifth straight district championship.
The Bobcats continue spring practice on Wednesday with their Spring Game on Friday, May 18, at 6 p.m.
Central opens their 2018 season at home on Friday, Aug. 31, against Killeen Shoemaker.
