McCulloch County Jail Temporarily Shut Down; Inmates Relocated

BRADY, TX-- The McCulloch County Jail was forced to relocate all but two inmates by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards after a failed inspection.

The inspection revealed a broken generator at the facility.

The relocated inmates were transported to the county jails of Brown, Burnet and Mills.

"It was relocate them or have two guards on duty for 24 hours," said McCulloch County Sheriff John Dagen. "I just don't have the men for that."

Sheriff Dagen said the generator would not start because an injector pump was  "destroyed."

"We have a guy here fixing it," the Sheriff said on Tuesday. "We'll start it back up soon. Once we get it working, we'll go get the other inmates."

The McCulloch County Jail, located in Brady, typically houses an average of 12 inmates.

The Commission on Jail Standards has also recently brought problems to Tom Green County officials and their plans for a new jail.
