Bobcat's Narrow Lead Doesn't Hold Against Explosive Waco Midway

SAN ANGELO, TX-- After battling for five innings Central was unable to hold a late lead allowing Midway to comeback and ultimately grab a 11-4 victory.

“I thought we put together some great at bats. We were in the game there until the big inning where a few miscues [happened], we missed plays and didn’t hit our spots,” said Central Bobcat Head Coach Patrick Penry. “But Limon competed and gave our team a chance to win. I’m extremely proud of our boys, they never lose focus and they never stop competing.”

Midway got things started in the second inning scoring one run on a Couper Cornblum single. Cornblum would score later in the inning on a Central error

The Bobcats kept the game close and tied things up at two in the bottom of the third inning after a sacrifice fly by Oscar Nino scored Cole Nelson. Johnathon Limon would score on a balk in the fourth inning to give Central a 3-2 lead.

Midway was down 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning but a double by Will Riglney would score three runs to put Midway up 6-3 over Central.

From this point on Midway controlled the game the rest of the way and only allowed one more run in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Trip Clark started the game for Midway but was taken out after three-and-two-thirds innings. Clark struck out four and allowed three runs on seven hits.

Jackson Berry relieved Clark and earned the victory for Midway. Berry struck out three Central batters and only allowed one run on three hits over three and a third innings of work.

Central’s Limon earned the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits and eight in five and a third innings. Limon also recorded three strikeouts for the Bobcats.

Although Central tallied more hits then Midway they were unable to come away with the victory. Central’s ten hits outnumbered Midway’s nine for the game.

Rance Rosas, Blake Mikeska, Nino, and Nelson all recorded multiple hits. Rosas led the way going 3-for-4 in the game. Will Rigney, JJ Davis, and Couper Cornblum all recorded multiple hits for Midway in the game as well.

Central (10-18, 6-4) looks to rebound following this loss against Harker Heights in another district series next week.
