Fleeing Fugitives "Bonnie and Clyde" Identified as Hailing from Florida Panhandle

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Jail lists the names of the two who raced their motorcycle through three west Texas counties Thursday. They were caught after a wandering high-speed chase through north San Angelo (see: "Bonnie and Clyde" on a Crotch Rocket Lead Multiple Agencies on High Speed Chase Through 3 Counties).

Shane Curry, 32, of the Florida Panhandle city of Defuniak Springs, was the driver of the high performance motorcycle who led multiple law enforcement agencies on the chase. He was booked into jail yesterday after being caught and charged with Evading Arrest with a Previous Conviction in Tom Green County, and with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle in Coleman County. The chase originated within the City of Coleman, 72 miles to the northeast of San Angelo.

His bond is set at $7,500 in Tom Green County and $10,000 in Coleman County.

Riding with Curry on the back of the motorcycle was Victora Lynn Vencil, 33, also of Defuniak Springs, Florida. She was charged with Evading Arrest/Detention in Tom Green County and with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle in Coleman County. She is being held on a $500 bond in Tom Green County and a $10,000 bond in Coleman County.

The chase originated with in the Coleman city limits late Thursday afternoon when the Coleman Police Department attempted to pull the motorcycle over. Curry is accused of leading Coleman police on a chase south on TX 206 to U.S. 67 and southbound through Ballinger, Miles, and eventually San Angelo. Multiple agencies, including the Texas DPS, Runnels County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tom Green County Sheriff Office pursued the couple riding the bike on a chase that was reported to have reached speeds over 100 mph when headed down U.S. 67 south.

The duo ditched the bike in a wooded vacant lot near Kiser Carpet in San Angelo and proceeded to run on foot for about three-quarter miles to where they were apprehended by a San Angelo State Park policeman near a church on Mercedes St. in northwest San Angelo.

Curry has an extensive arrest record in Florida, including probation violations. His passenger, Vencil, also has an arrest record in Florida.

The Coleman Police Department told us late Thursday night they will be releasing more information about how the incident originated in their city soon.
