Big Spring Drive-By Shooting Results in Two People Shot Including a Toddler

BIG SPRING, TX — According to a Facebook post by the Big Spring Police Department, multiple people had been shot, including a two-year-old child, on March 16 at approximately 7:25 p.m. outside the KFC in Big Spring.

Big Spring Chief of Police, Chad Williams, released the statement saying, “Big Spring Police was dispatched the KFC on 1711 S. Gregg in reference to shots fired. While en-route numerous calls came into dispatch informing occupants in a tan in color SUV was shooting at the occupants of a white passenger car and a black passenger car and all three vehicles had left the scene.”

It is believed at approximately 7:25 p.m. the white and black cars were parked in the north part of the parking lot of the KFC restaurant when the tan SUV approached from the alley just east of the parking lot.

While the occupants in the white and black vehicles were visiting, two Hispanic males identified as Angel Villa, age 20, and Rafael Jesus Hernandez Jr., age 20, opened fire on both vehicles.

The black and white vehicles then tried to get away and leave the parking lot, but the tan SUV followed and continued firing at the vehicles while traveling eastbound on E. 18th Street.

A 2-year-old female child in the black vehicle was shot and the driver took the toddler to the Scenic Mountain Medical Center for treatment. The young girl was flown by helicopter to the Covenant Medical in Lubbock Texas and was in serious condition.

The male driver of the white vehicle continued to run from Villa and Hernandez until the vehicle was disabled in the 1000 block of E. 20th Street. The adult male occupant had been shot and was taken to SMMC and is in stable conditions.

The Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers Division responded and assisted in the investigation of this case.

“At the time of this media release Arrest Warrants have been issued for Villa and Hernandez each for 2 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a Felony 2 offense. The Big Spring Police Department expects more charges to follow,” said the post by the Chief of Police.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information is available at this time.
