SAN ANGELO, TX -- Outdoor burning is banned in Tom Green County for the next 90 days after County Commissioners adopt a burn ban at their regular meeting Tuesday.
According to a notice from the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, “The Tom Green County Commissioners' Court has ordered that all outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated area of the county for 90 days from January 23, 2018. This Order is adopted pursuant to Local Government Code 352.081, and other applicable statutes. This Order does not prohibit cooking stoves fueled by "white gasoline" or outdoor cooking grills fueled by propane or natural gas.
In accordance with Local Government Code 352.081(h), a violation of this Order is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00.”
The combination of a lack of rainfall along with high winds and low humidity have increased the danger of wildfires. The burn ban can be lifted by the Commissioner's Court at anytime that conditions improve.
