Voters Can Now Request Ballots By Mail for the March Primary Election

SAN ANGELO, TX -- (Tom Green Co. Elections Press Release)  Voters may now begin to apply for ballots by mail for the calendar year 2018.  Due to the fact that 2018 is a primary election year, it is imperative that voters wishing to participate in the primary election indicate the party for which they wish to receive a ballot.

If the voter is 65 years of age or older, or disabled, they may apply to receive all ballots by mail for a calendar year.

To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

1.      be 65 years or older; or

2.      be disabled; or

3.      be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible; or

4.      be out of the county on election day and during the hours of early voting in person or the remainder of the early voting period after you submit your application.  Your ballot must be mailed to an address outside the county.  You must provide the date you can begin to receive mail at this address.

An application may be submitted by:

1.      Mail

2.      Common or contract carrier (mail)

3.      Fax (Tom Green County number 325-657-9226)

4.      Email (Tom Green County [email protected])

A law passed in the last legislative session requires voters submitting their application via fax or email to mail the original to the early voting clerk within 4 business days.

Blank forms are available on the Tom Green County website: www.votetomgreencounty.org, under the forms link, by emailing: [email protected], or by calling the office at 325-659-6541.  When calling to request a blank application, remember to allow enough time for the application to be mailed to you and returned in order to be in the office by the deadline (must be received by the posted date, not postmarked).

For the March 6th primary election the deadline for ballot by mail applications is February 23rd.  The deadline to register is February 5th.  Voter registration applications may be obtained via the website under the forms link, by emailing: [email protected], or by calling the office at 325-659-6541.  Voters are reminded to allow enough time for the form to be mailed to them so that it can be postmarked by the deadline of the 5th.  Unlike the application for a ballot by mail, the voter registration application simply has to be postmarked by the deadline.  It is best to mail or deliver this application in person to ensure the deadline is met but if someone is faxing or emailing the application, the original must be received by the election office within 4 business days to qualify.

Voters are reminded that both during early voting and on Election Day, if they are physically unable to enter the poll, they may vote curbside.

Other information is available on the webpage which will be updated with sample ballots and other information as it becomes available.
