Innocent Driver Rushed the Hospital After Victimized by Hit-and-Run Driver

SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man was rushed to the hospital after he was plowed into by a red-light-running, hit-and-run driver Monday afternoon.

According to San Angelo police, the white passenger car (pictured) was northbound on Main St. when a westbound car on the access road to the Houston Harte Expy. ran the light and slammed into it. The white car spun around several times before coming to a rest in the middle of the roadway.

Police said the westbound car fled the scene with witnesses in hot pursuit. Calling 9-1-1 while en route, the witnesses and dispatch were able to direct police to where the hit-and-run driver and car were located. “Somewhere at a residence north of here,” said San Angelo Police Traffic Investigator Officer Bradshaw.

Texas hit-and-run laws changed in 2013. Depending upon the severity of the white car driver’s injuries, the offending driver could face Second-Degree Felony charges if the driver dies (not likely). Prosecutors can charge the driver with a Third-Degree Felony, and the driver will face up to five years in prison, with a fine up to $5,000, if the victim suffers “serious bodily injuries.”

What is likely, however, the hit-and-run driver will face Class B misdemeanor charges since the accident probably caused more than $200 in damage. If guilty of the Class B, the maximum jail time is six months.

Bradshaw said he has multiple witnesses who will testify the hit-and-run driver ran a red light.

The extent of the small sedan driver’s injuries are unknown, but Bradshaw said he will be speaking to him at Shannon Medical Center after finishing up the investigation at the crash scene.
