Man Custom Makes an IED in his Abilene Motel Room

ABILENE, TX—In December 2016, a motel employee phoned the Abilene police department, telling them there was a device on his premises that resembled a bomb.  Bomb technicians took control of that device without any issues.

Fast forward to Oct. 4 this year.

A lengthy investigation revealed Keilyn Batts, 28, was the suspect. A warrant for his arrest was issued resulting in Batts being taken into custody.

The investigation revealed the probability that Batts  was involved in creating an improvised explosive devise (IED,) that was found in the vacant north Abilene Motel room.  He is currently being held at the Taylor County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond under a 3rd degree felony possession of a prohibited weapon.
