SAN ANGELO, TX — Six-man football is one of the greatest adaptations of the game most of America loves. You line up six guys against another six and, for added good measure, everyone is an eligible receiver. In fact, last week, the Campbell Indians and Fannindell Falcons combined for 247 points. No, that's not a typo. Six-man football is fun to watch, even with a pair of 2-2 teams squaring off like Eden and Water Valley will do this Friday in our LIVE! Game of the Week.
These two teams are both on two-game win streaks after struggling through the first two games.
In six-man, there's a 45-point mercy rule. If you're trailing by 45 points at halftime, or anytime after, the game is over. This mercy rule is something both Eden and Water Valley know very well. In eight combined games, the two teams have experienced the mercy rule seven times. Eden has seen the mercy rule put in effect in all of their games, with their latest installment being the 56-8 thrashing of Rochelle last Friday. Water Valley, who had a 41-20 win over Westbrook in week four, has only seen the mercy rule three times in 2017 and have been on the wrong end of it twice.
Water Valley has been consistent this season, averaging 38 points per game and their offense should be favored in this game only because of their defense over the last two weeks. Against Grady and Westbrook, the Wildcats gave up an average of 17 points in those two weeks.
Under new Head Coach Keith Woolf, the Wildcats had some growing pains. Those pains may have subsided, bringing Water Valley back to a semblance of what they used to be. But never rule the Bulldogs of Eden out of a game. They have an explosive presence.
The game kicks off Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Sanders Stadium, 113 W. Bryan St., in Eden at 7:30 p.m.
Prediction: Water Valley 78, Eden 42
