Car Fire Spreads at Apartment Parking Lot Before Fire Department Called

SAN ANGELO, TX — A car fire in the parking lot of the Resort at Riverside Apartments, 3310 N. Bryant Blvd., forced the evacuation of at least one unit of the apartments there early Sunday morning at around 2:30 a.m.

One car was already engulfed in flames by the time witness and resident David Aguirre happened to step outside to have a cigarette. “The car was just blazing on fire, it had been burning for quite a while,” he said. “And no one had called anybody.”

Aguirre dialed 9-1-1 and reported the fire, and then videoed the blaze from across the way.

Before San Angelo firefighters could arrive, the fire had spread to the car next to it. Car alarms were set off. It took just a couple of minutes for SAFD to extinguish the blaze once they arrived.

The fire investigator from the City Fire Marshal’s office confirmed the fire involved two parked vehicles. San Angelo police put up crime scene tape. It appeared police detained at least one person, but the fire investigator had not confirmed the detained person was connected to the fire when he talked to us.

Pretty certain nobody knew the fire was going on because they were all unconscious from drug overdoses..........
