DALLAS, TX-- The Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys were scheduled to play their final preseason game of 2017 on Thursday, Aug. 31. Today, the two teams decided to cancel the game altogether.
Following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, the Texans flew to Dallas after their third preseason game in New Orleans against the Saints. The Cowboys and Texans then agreed to move the Thursday game from NRG Stadium in Houston to AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones also allowed the displaced Texans to practice at the Cowboys practice facility, The Star, during their displacement from Harvey.
The Cowboys and Texans announced earlier in the week that all proceeds from Thursday's game would go to disaster relief efforts in Houston. The Cowboys had sold 40,000 tickets to the event, with each ticket costing $25 apiece.
With the cancellation, the Texans will now get to go home and be with their families after being away for nearly a week. The Texans open up the 2017 regular season in Houston on Sept. 10 against Jacksonville, while the Cowboys will take on the New York Giants at home on Sept. 10.
