Not Even a Cat 4 Hurricane Can Turn a Houstonian into a Cowboys Fan

HOUSTON, TX — At stores across Houston Friday, Houstonians were busy purchasing last minute supplies for the impending landfall of Hurricane Harvey. Harvey was upgraded to a Category 4 storm just before landfall Friday.

Houstonians are generally familiar with items needed to ride out a hurricane. Items like masking tape, plywood for boarding up windows, and batteries often are grabbed off pallets before stockers can place the merchandise on store shelves and midways.

With the high-speed wind and flooding, electricity is usually fragile during storms, hence the batteries. But also refrigerators that store valuable and perishable food are vulnerable to power outages. That is why ice coolers are more valuable during the days leading up to and after the hurricane makes landfall.

At a Houston Wal-Mart today, all of the coolers were gone from shelves except the ice chests branded with the Dallas Cowboys. Amjad Ismail, proud Houston Texans fan, tweeted the photo above. As of Aug. 25 at 11:15 p.m., the post was re-tweeted 6,400 times and “Loved” by 12,000 Twitter users.

“Even in a hurricane, no one is taking the Cowboys coolers,” he tweeted.

The photo was also posted on the sub-Reddit under the headline, “We aren’t that desperate yet.”

Hurricane Harvey made landfall northeast of Corpus Christi around 10 p.m. CDT, bringing with it a sea surge of up to 13 feet. Winds were estimated at 130 mph. The storm center hit 30 miles from Corpus Christi and reports Friday night were that many areas of the city of 320,000 were without power.

I wonder if they bought enough coolers in Corpus, with or without a Cowboys logo?
