Traffic Stop Turns into Confrontation; Suspect Pepper Sprayed

SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo Police Officers stopped a vehicle on S. Bryant at Ave. N this afternoon for an expired license tag and ended up pepper spraying the driver after he failed to provide a driver’s license and resisted the officers.

According to SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez at the scene, a struggle ensued and the driver fled across the street to Title Max and crossed the street again and ended up inside the Stripes store where he was apprehended.

The driver is identified as 23-year-old Scott Gomez who is facing two counts of  resisting arrest and faces additional charges for traffic violations.

One SAPD Officer suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.  Gonzalez said the suspect was treated  at the scene by paramedics for pepper spray.

This is an ongoing investigation.
