Saturday Morning's High Speed Chase Originated in Abilene

SAN ANGELO, TX — Early Saturday morning’s high-speed chase began near Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene and ended near the north gate of Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo. According to our partners KTXS in Abilene, the chase originated near the intersection of FM 707 and U.S. 277 and ended on Paint Rock Rd. at Sellers St. in east San Angelo. The chase lasted for about 90 miles and lasted from approximately 1 a.m. until 2:07 a.m. Roughly, the average speed during the chase was 80 mph.

KTXS confirmed through a spokesman at the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office that Taylor County deputies chased the red SUV from FM 707 to near the Tom Green County line south of Bronte. From there, Tom Green County sheriff’s deputies took over the pursuit that led into the city limits of San Angelo. San Angelo police were notified and had enough time to attempt to block and clear intersections as the chase moved into the city.

An approximate map of the chase:

The chase meandered through the city limits, including down Bryant Blvd., across to S. Washington St., back across Abe and Koenigheim and the south on Randolph St. where the suspects sped southward until ending up eastbound on Avenue L.

Avenue L turns into Paint Rock Rd. At around Sellers, the suspects lost control of their vehicle and slammed into a residence at the corner of Paint Rock and Sellers St.

The two occupants of the vehicle had warrants, but more charges for evading arrest were added. Today, the driver, 26-year-old Fernando Ramirez, sits in the Tom Green County jail on a $49,000 bond. He has charges pending from a May 2017 incident for heroin possession with intent to deliver and a court date set for Aug. 23. His passenger, 32-year-old Crystal Dawn Munoz, was arrested for evading arrest in addition to her outstanding warrant. She sits in the Tom Green County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
