SAN ANGELO, TX — Traffic poles at the intersection of Van Buren and Pecos need to be fixed after a vehicle collided into one of the traffic poles early this morning.
Officer Bylsma, with the San Angelo Police Department (SAPD), stated that a 2015 GMC Terrain and a 2002 black Chevy Tahoe collided after the northbound GMC entered the intersection and hit the eastbound Chevy.
The driver of the GMC said that right before the accident she looked back to her son for a moment, got distracted, and entered the intersection. The driver of the Chevy stated that she noticed the GMC coming towards her at the intersection and tried to stop to get out of the other car's way.
After the two collided, the GMC went off the roadway and struck a traffic pole. According the Bylsma, the lights came down so low that they were a hazard to oncoming traffic. City officials are now on scene to fix the downed traffic lights. As of right now, the intersection of Pecos and Van Buren will be a four-way stop. Stop signs have been put up.
Bylsma can not prove that the GMC disregarded a red light and will therefore not be issuing any citations.
Everyone refused medical treatment on scene.
