Fatality Confirmed in Mobile Home Fire Near Miles, Tex.

 

A double-wide mobile home went up in flames this morning near Miles, within Tom Green County. A tall flume of smoke could be seen for miles around as the mobile home burned to the ground. There is no evidence that a mobile home ever existed at the location, just a pile of smoldering ruins and occasional flames that continue to pop up.

East Concho Volunteer Fire Department, Quail Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Miles Volunteer Fire Department are still fighting the blaze as of 9 a.m. this morning.

There is an unconfirmed report of one fatality in the blaze.

The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department is keeping media far away from the scene.

UPDATE 9:30 a.m.

Tom Green County Sheriffs have called in the State of Texas Fire Investigators to investigate. Also, the Tom Green County Crisis Intervention group is on the scene. The exact location of the property is 9793 W. FM 1692.

UPDATE 10:00 a.m.

The Miles VFD has had to refill their pumper truck three times as the flames persist.

UPDATE 10:40 p.m.

Lt. Ron Sanders of the Tom Green County Criminal Investigations Dept. is in charge of the scene and investigation. He said the fire was reported at 7:06 a.m. by a neighbor. The San Angelo Fire Marshal is investigating and the authorities on the scene have called for the State of Texas Fire Investigation team, or State Fire Marshal, out of Midland to come to the scene and lead the investigation. Tom Green County Sheriff's Dept. is assisting in determining the cause of the fire.

Sanders said that there was one fatality and two injured. He added that the family had lived in the multi-bedroom mobile home for a "good while."

The location of the fire is still extremely hot, according to Sanders. In addition, the authorities on the scene are safeguarding the scene until the State of Texas Fire Marshal arrives to start their investigation.
