Commissioners OK McNease Convention Center for Jury Selection in Capital Murder Trial

SAN ANGELO, TX – Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday approved using the McNease Convention Center as a temporary courthouse for jury selection in the capital murder trial of Isidro Delacruz.

According to Ann Bailey with the District Clerk’s office, the venue is necessary because the jury pool is expected to be about 350 people and there’s not a courtroom large enough to hold that many in the Tom Green County Courthouse. Jury selection begins on July 31.

Tom Green County will pay the City of San Angelo $1,750 for the one day rental of the McNease Convention Center for access to the main room and two side rooms.  Bailey told commissioners the price was higher because musician and entertainer Lee Greenwood is performing at the convention center the night before and the city will have to bring in extra people at midnight to clean and setup the venue.

Delacruz is accused of cutting the throat of a five year old girl.  He faces the death penalty in the capital murder case.
