SAN ANGELO, TX -- Fire Fighters with the Grape Creek, Carlsbad, and Water Valley Volunteer Fire Departments doused a two acre grassfire at 12604 East Carlsbad Loop in north western Tom Green County around 2 p.m. this afternoon.
Four fire trucks could be seen putting out the flames from the roadway. Three other trucks were also dispatched and manned by the Carlsbad Volunteer Fire Department. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported at the scene.
As of now, there has been no word on how the grassfire started.
On Tuesday, Tom Green County Commissioners declined to act on banning outdoor burning and missed a deadline to ban the sale and use of certain types of aerial fireworks for the upcoming Independence Day Holiday. Pct. 4 Commissioner Bill Ford asked the court to reinstate the burn ban, but the court took no action on Tuesday.
UPDATE: 4:45 p.m.
The San Angelo Police Department issued the following statement on Facebook: "A few grass fires are burning in the county. Hot, dry and windy weather conditions have dramatically increased the fire risk so we are asking smokers never to throw their cigarette butts out of vehicle windows. A single burning butt can wreak havoc on people’s lives and cause significant economic damage."
