Border Patrol Agents Seize a Quarter of a Million Dollars Worth of Methamphetamine

DEL RIO, Texas – Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 57 immigration checkpoint arrested an Eagle Pass woman for narcotics smuggling, on Wednesday.

On May 31, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Station immigration checkpoint on Highway 57 seized 7.9 pounds of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $252.800, from a 2003 Ford Explorer. The driver, 24, was arrested for narcotics smuggling and turned over to the custody of DEA for prosecution.

“Agents must be adaptive and master multiple disciplines in order to counter drug trafficking networks,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent of Del Rio Sector Matthew J. Hudak. “Our checkpoints and the agents who work them are vital tools to our success." Hudak added, "I applaud our agents and their diligence that resulted in this seizure.”

For Fiscal Year 2017, which began on Oct. 1, 2016, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector has seized more than $9 million worth of narcotics. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity, call the sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
