Little Girl Injured While Attempting To Fix Firearm

SAN ANGELO, TX — Around 7:30 p.m. Monday evening, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office responded to an accidental shooting in the Grape Creek area.

It is currently unknown if anyone was seriously injured or what age the victim or victims, if any, were. 

This incident is currently under investigation and LIVE! will provide an update should more information become available. 

Update June 6, 2017 at 11 a.m.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office released an update on what was initially reported as an 'accidental shooting.' After further investigations, Sheriff Deputies have now called the incident an  "injury to juvenile." 

Around 7:30 p.m. TGCSO Deputies responded to a call about an injured juvenile in the 9900 block of Raccoon Road in Grape Creek.

Upon arrival, deputies found a female juvenile with a towel wrapped around her hand. The deputy used his first aid kit and began treating the injury

During the investigation deputies learned that a female juvenile and another juvenile were attempting to remove a lodged .223 caliber cartridge from a barrel that had been removed from a firearm.  One juvenile was holding the barrel while the other attempted to remove the cartridge.  

San Angelo Fire Department Medic 6 transported the injured female juvenile to Shannon Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The TGCSO Criminal Investigations Division has taken over the investigation.
