SAN ANGELO, TEXAS — According to the Tom Green County (TGC) National Weather Service, TGC can expect severe rain and thunderstorms tonight between 10 p.m. and midnight.
Seth Nagle, senior forecaster, said there’s a chance of 1 inch or greater sized hail and winds of up to 60 mph. Also, with these conditions, there is always a possibility of an isolated tornado.
“[The storm] will probably move through the San Angelo area between 10 p.m. and midnight, and then move east from there,” Nagle said.
He mentioned, that these storms are classified as severe thunderstorms due the hail and damaging winds that will accompany the storm.
“Our main concern is going to be the hail and high winds,” Nagle said.
For preparation, Nagle suggested placing vehicles in the garage, if available, taking any outdoor decorations inside, and to pay attention for updates through the media or weather services.
“Even with severe thunderstorms [everyone] should get into an interior room of a house because even strong winds, with hail, can break windows.”
The storms won’t pick up again until Thursday with similar conditions of heavy rain and thunderstorms. These conditions could continue off-and-on between Thursday evening and Saturday, according to Nagle.
“As a cold front enters the area it moves through and gives us a chance for showers,” Nagel added. “We may see heavy rain with the cold front moving through.”
He did note that in terms of “severe” weather, tonight and Thursday are the days that will yield the worst conditions.

Update: May 18th @ 3:20 p.m.
The TGC National Weather Service has issued a tornado advisory lasting until 10 p.m. tonight. Aaron Woodward, meteorologist, said they are watching the dry line as it surges east of San Angelo.
"Looking at the dry line its still west of San Angelo and is pushing to Big Lake right now," Woodward said. "[This] will be the focal point for any kind of storm activity."
He noted that todays's weather has been unstable with the humid air and heavy feel to it.
"We are very unstable, so any storm that begins to develop will happen very rapidly," Woodward added. "[This could come] with hail or an isolated tornado."
The chance of rain is expected to continue through the week with a cold front coming in on Friday.
