SAN ANGELO, TX-- Yesterday afternoon, the 51st Judicial District Court heard a plea-hearing for a San Angelo man charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault against a minor.
Scott Andrew Maike, 33, was charged by a Texas Grand Jury on June 25, 2016, with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault against a Child, both first degree felonies. Additionally, Maike was charged with Indecency with a Child. His bounds totaled $50,000 for all three counts.
Maike's indictment reads that he, “knowingly cause[d] the sexual organ of [the victim], aged 14, to contact the sexual organ of the defendant.”
The range of punishment for the sexual assault offense committed by Maike is 5 to 99 years in the state penitentiary.
Honorable Judge Tom Gossett preceded over the hearing yesterday and made it known that if Maike pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault in a plea deal, the other two charges would be dismissed.
Maike showed a complacent demeanor during the hearing. After Judge Gossett further explained the details of the plea deal, Maike pled guilty.
Judge Gossett accepted the plea deal, and sentenced Maike to ten years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
“I do find beyond a reasonable doubt that [Maike] is guilty for the charge of Sexual Assault of a Child.”
Maike was turned over to the detention officers to proceed with the sentencing.
