SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – Early Thursday morning, at around 12:45 a.m., San Angelo Police officers were dispatched to the Stripes Convenience store located at 1606 La Follette Street for a reported robbery.
As units arrived, they learned that a tall black male, wearing a dark blue polo style shirt, jeans, and distinctive athletic shoes, had entered the store with a plastic bag tied around his mouth. The suspect, later identified at 44-year-old William Hosea English, armed with a handgun, approached the clerk and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of currency, English fled the store on foot. No one was injured at the time of the incident and the robbery was caught on surveillance video.
A short time later, San Angelo Police Sergeant A. Callum, who was conducting directive patrol for other area convenience stores, observed a man who matched English’s physical and clothing description near Junius and Howard streets.
English was detained and although he initially provided a false identity, English was arrested for an outstanding Motion to Revoke Parole Warrant. He was later transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
During a search of the area where English was taken into custody, investigating officers located evidence connecting English to the robbery. The evidence was seized and tagged.
Through follow up investigation, detectives with the SAPD Criminal Investigations Division department were able to establish probable cause to charge English with First Degree Felony Aggravated Robbery.
This is an ongoing investigation, Live will update should more information become available.
